Young Jones Act Worker Still Hospitalized After Untreated Illness
- Arnold & ItkinLed by Cory Itkin, a team of Arnold & Itkin’s maritime attorneys recently filed a case in Harris County, Texas on behalf of a Jones Act worker from West Monroe, Louisiana.
The young man, an 18-year-old, was working on a Diamond Offshore drillship when he sustained a debilitating illness that required immediate medical attention, but he was left untreated. Our client has suffered a stroke, heart failure, a brain bleed, and pneumonia as a result, and he has had to undergo several surgeries. To this day, he is still in the hospital due to this horrifically delayed medical care.
“Every worker should be allowed to receive adequate medical treatment from their employer, no matter the circumstances. When corporations neglect this basic duty, life-altering circumstances such as this can occur. We look forward to getting justice for our client,” an attorney on the case said.
It is only too common for maritime companies to operate by cost-cutting, profit-seeking measures that lead to the careless treatment of their employees, even to the point of risking their employees’ lives. When companies act with such egregious negligence, they must be held accountable and forced to change how they operate, for the safety and well-being of their employees.
Our Louisiana maritime attorneys are eager and proud to help another offshore worker receive the justice he deserves.
