What Happened During the Bayou Sorrel Boat Accident
According to officials, four boaters were traveling down the Intercoastal Canal on Monday evening when they stopped for dinner at Jack Miller’s Landing. After their meal, they boarded their small tugboat that was tied to the landing. Then, a larger vessel collided with their tugboat, sending all four men into the water.
Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi has confirmed that officials have yet to recover the smaller tugboat. Stassi also revealed that search and rescue teams worked to locate the missing person but suspended their operations after 20 hours. An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
Bayou Sorrel has been the location of numerous boat accidents over the years. Last November, one boater was killed after a head-on crash in Indigo. In 2016, three people sustained injuries after two boats collided near the Shell oilfield channel. The incident caused one man to suffer from a severe head injury.
