Orion Marine Group Accident Attorneys
Marine & Industrial Construction Injuries
First known as Orion Construction, Onion Marine Group was founded in 1994. Soon after, it started a steady pace of acquiring other companies, some of which were established as far back as the 1930s and 1940s. In this way, the marine construction company expanded into dredging services and more.
Orion Marine Group is one of the leading specialty contractors serving the heavy civil marine infrastructure market. Orion offers a wide range of marine construction and specialty services to federal, state, and municipal governments, as well as private commercial and industrial enterprises on the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Seaboard, the Pacific Northwest, Canada, and the Caribbean Basin. In 2009, the US Army Corp of Engineers accounted for 16% of Orion's revenue.
Orion Marine Group's offerings include:
- Port facility & cruise terminal construction
- Construction of bridges, piers, marinas, and other transportation infrastructure
- Industrial construction services
- Dredging services
- Pipeline construction
- Diving
- Demolition
- Salvage
- Surveying
The company also owns and operates barges, dayboats, tugs, dredges, and more. Orion Marine Group employs more than 800 people, and its headquarters are located in Houston, Texas.
Orion Marine Group Faulted in a Deadly Explosion
In August 2020, a dredging vessel, the Waymon L. Boyd, was carrying 18 Orion Marine Group workers when it cut into a pipeline. The resulting explosion engulfed the vessel in flames. This killed three employees on the barge and a worker on a nearby vessel and injured six others. One of the injured workers succumbed to his injuries a few months later. This tragic accident was preventable, but Orion failed to take proper planning precautions, such as making sure where pipelines were before dredging in the area. Its sister company, Schneider Engineering & Consulting, was also faulted for having out-of-date schematics, meaning that the pipeline wasn't accurately placed on its documents.
This is just one example of the ways that corporations can fail to take simple steps to protect their workers, and it’s their workers who pay the price, whether through debilitating, painful injuries or with their very lives.
Our Orion Injury Lawyers Advocate for Workers
When corporations like Orion Marine Group fail in their duty to provide safe workplaces for their employees, they often fail to take responsibility as well. Even if an injured worker or a bereaved family member brings a lawsuit forward, companies often try to minimize their liability and avoid paying compensation to those who have suffered from their negligence.
