Halliburton Accident Lawyers
We Hold the World's Biggest Corporations Accountable
Founded in 1919, Halliburton Company is one of the world's largest oilfield service companies, with operations in more than 70 countries. The company is responsible for the safety of more than 40,000 workers. Halliburton is headquartered in Houston, Texas, and Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Halliburton provides products and services to the energy industry and the upstream oil and gas industry—from reservoir testing and well construction to well completion, integrated plug and abandonment, as well as production consulting, and more. Halliburton's primary business is as a consultant to help oil exploration and drilling companies extract more oil from the ground and optimize production for customers. Halliburton also provides equipment and services to aid companies in evaluating new drilling opportunities, as well as cementing services post-drilling.
Halliburton’s Liability in History’s Biggest Oil Spill
Halliburton was the cementing contractor on the Deepwater Horizon when the explosion and subsequent oil spill occurred in April 2010 in the Gulf of Mexico.
In 2014, Halliburton agreed to a $1.1 billion settlement—as the company had been sued for shoddy work at the Macondo well leading up to the Deepwater Horizon explosion. The work in question was the cement that was poured to plug the well before the fateful blowout and fire, this negligent work being one of many factors blamed for the disaster.
In July 2013, Halliburton pled guilty to a federal misdemeanor for destroying evidence related to the Macondo well blowout and resulting oil spill. The company's own computer ran simulations and found that they could be on the hook for the Deepwater Horizon incident, so they promptly destroyed that evidence and tried to lay the blame on BP alone. Halliburton ended up paying a $200,000 fine and a $55 million donation to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
