Seeking Justice for Injured Offshore Workers
Allseas USA, Inc. in Houston, Texas, is the U.S. headquarters for the Swiss company Allseas. Parent company Allseas is one of the major offshore pipelay and subsea construction companies in the world, operating specialized vessels that were designed in-house. The company is privately owned by founder Edward Heerema.
Allseas USA provides offshore pipelay and subsea construction services in the Gulf of Mexico. It operates pipelay vessels, support vessels, and subsea pipeline trenchers. The company offers project management, engineering, procurement, and pipeline installation and commissioning services. Allseas USA also operates the Port Fourchon Supply Base Wharf in Louisiana for the receipt and shipment of materials, supplies, and equipment for the offshore oil industry.
Allseas in the News for Dishonorable Decisions & Policies
In 2015, the company came under fire for naming one of its vessels after a convicted Nazi war criminal, the company's founder saying that he named it after his father because he had also engineered solutions for the oil and gas industry. The public outcry, including from the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) did eventually persuade Heerema and the company to take down the offensive name and change it to the Pioneering Spirit.
The ITF president during this controversy, Paddy Crumlin, noted that more than the vessel name was dubious, accusing Allseas of also "seeking to drive down safety standards and working conditions for seafarers the world over", stating that the original name was just another symptom of a disreputable corporation.
This corporation also has been involved with pipe laying for the politically charged Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
